Background

Experimental data preservation has been a long standing issue in research and has proven to be difficult in areas where particularly large datasets are generated. To meet the overall need of preserving and making data available for the advancement of science, SBGrid has set up the SBGrid Data Bank as a community-driven repository to preserve primary experimental datasets that support scientific publications. Access to primary data supports the community efforts to continuously improve existing models, to develop improved software to address limitations of existing programs, and to identify new features through complete reprocessing and validation of existing structures.

The SBGrid Data Bank is an open source research data management system enabling Structural Biologists to preserve x-ray diffraction data and to make it accessible to the broad research community. Driven by SBGrid’s community focused spirit, the Data Bank aims to provide a state-of-the-art infrastructure for the sharing of knowledge.
